Celebrating Paramahamsa Vishwananda’s Appearance Day
It was my Guru Paramahamsa Vishwananda’s appearance day today. We say “appearance day” instead of “birthday” because he’s an Avatar. You have to be aware of, well versed in, and accepting of the concept of reincarnation to understand that. But I also recommend Googling “Dashavatar” and watching some of the adorable Youtube animations that about it.
There are a small handful of devotees of Paramahamsa here in Toronto so for this birthday, I just sent a message out on our group chat inviting everyone over to do Guru Puja and have some vegan cakes to celebrate him.
We got ready in our tilaks and Mum offered to cook dinner for us as well. It really felt like a festive celebration!
We sang the Guru Stroram and took turns doing Abhishekam to a relic of Guruji’s that I have and my Narasimha Saligram. I put the other items of Guruji’s that he’d given me on the altar as well.
Even though we’re small, we’re family. Just like with every family, there are some tight bonds and some strained bonds. The bonds are there regardless because we are a family tied together by our love for our Guru. We may not always get along but we have to come together for family reunions.
And what better reason to come together than to celebrate the one we love the most? Our Gurudev Paramahamsa Vishwananda.
